STEM September News

Hello Fall River Families,

I am happy to be returning to Fall River as STEM Coordinator.  I will be here half-time, even though our Race to the Top grant has ended.  St. Vrain Valley School District and Fall River want to continue to offer students innovative STEM and design experiences across grade levels in many contexts.

We have our maker space up and running.  Students have named this space “The Fox Forge”.  This space, along with transforming our library into a multi-media space, is the result of the Fall River community participating in two years of SVVSD design challenges, the PTO and a group of staff members working together this summer. Teachers will sign up for time in the maker space with their classes to work on design projects or elements of the design process.  Students will be attending media in their specials rotation, where they will have access to traditional library experiences, computer science lessons, digital creation and a lot more!

We will be beginning our 5th year of STEM student leadership in the near future.  This group of students helps plan lessons, gives feedback on materials, and helps in data collection and design thinking projects for our entire school community.  They also help support our robotics tournament and Family STEM Night.

Welcome back and thank you for your continued support of STEM/Design at Fall River Elementary.
