STEM February News

Hello Fall River Families,

Robotics Tournament

Fall River hosted The Fox Rocks Robotics tournament again this year.  Students from the St. Vrain Valley School District and surrounding areas met for friendly competition on January 27th.  This event is a qualifier for state and world tournaments coming later in the year.  Thank you to Mr. Medlock, The Innovation Center, the Fall River Robotics teams and all the volunteers that made our tournament a success!

Family STEM Night/Student Powered Projects

Do you have a hobby or a job that involves design, math, science, computing, creating or engineering?  Would you like to share your knowledge and joy with our Fall River community?  If so, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 20th, from 6- 7 pm for our Family STEM Night.  Please email Dr. Douglass at Douglass_Helen@svvsd.org if you are interested.  More information will be coming soon!

We will also be showcasing our Student Powered projects. Every student in every grade level is participating in a collaborative project to impact the community.  Students will use their interests, the design process, collaborate and share in this school-wide endeavor.  We will highlight the process during Family STEM Night, even if the projects are not complete.  We hope this new idea stemming from the design process, Genius Hour, Passion Projects and Student Questions will become a tradition and a way to enact our STEM mission statement.

Day of Excellence

Fall River was asked to highlight student work and tools they are using in their work at the first SVVSD Day of Excellence.  STEM student leadership students volunteered to demonstrate a few of the tools and how we use them here at Fall River.  We highlighted HyPars, Cubelets, Bitsbox, Beebots and unplugged computational thinking and computer science activities.  Thank you students for being outstanding Fall River representatives!

Thank you for your children!

Best,

Helen Douglass
