STEM December News

Hello Fall River Families,

Computer Science week is December 4-10!  Once again Fall River students will be participating in this international event.  We have registered at, where you can also go to try some lessons at home.  Also, you can check out the St. Vrain CS Ed week website for more information.  Computer science stations are set up in the Learning Lab (media center) and teachers have been doing “Lunch and Learn” to discover ways they can participate in CS Ed week in their classrooms.  If you want to volunteer and share your experiences in computer science, contact Dr. Douglass.  Thank you.

All students at Fall River Elementary are working on Student Powered Projects in what we hope will become a tradition at Fall River.  Expanding on the Genius Hour and Passion Projects students have completed in the past, students will expand their learning from presentation of their research and inquiries into serving the community.  Watch for updates on the process in the case near the yellow pod and come see progress during our Family STEM night in March.

STEM Student Leadership has begun their meetings.  Students enter through the outside doors near the Fox Forge (maker space) on days we meet.  The first big project is creating a sign for the space using consumable materials.  This group also helps with new materials and testing those for possible lessons as well as organizing and running Family STEM night in the Spring.

Thank you for your children,

Helen Douglass
