STEM April News

Hello Families,

Family STEM Night/Invention Convention

Thank you to all the students, staff, families and friends who helped make our combined Family STEM Night/Invention Convention a success!  We had adult presenters sharing their work and hobbies, students sharing their hobbies and classwork and our Invention Convention students sharing their creations.  We also had VEX IQ demonstrations and an STEM game exploring room.   If you didn’t make this year’s event, we hope to see you next year!  A

St. Vrain Valley VEX Robotics Showcase

Over 650 people bought tickets and bid on silent auction items at the St. Vrain Valley VEX Robotics Showcase.  Fall River students were outstanding in how they interacted with people at our table and shared their robotics knowledge.  Thank you to our VEX IQ parents for all the support during the competitive season and in supporting the Robotics Showcase.  Thank you to Mr. Medlock for being the VEX IQ sponsor.

Computer Science and Me!

We had over 50 students sign up for Computer Science and Me!  We offered three sections of this survey/exploratory class for students in grades K-2.  We explored the five strands of computer science, got to take apart some computers and had programming choices, as well as tried some “unplugged” activities.  Look for more opportunities in after school classes through community schools, and in our tech lab and upcoming maker space!

District Design Challenge

For the second year, FR Designs competed in the district design challenge.  This year the theme was student voice and choice.  We did not win, but received a $300 dollar gift to go toward our project of combining Family STEM Night with Invention Convention.  Students were unable to attend the pitch on March 11, but created the video we used in the presentation!

Summer STEM Programming

Due to our funding from the Race to the Top grant ending, we have made adjustments to our summer STEM programming.  Students signed up for one or two weeks of summer STEM challenges!  Forms were due in March, but please check if there is room on the wait list if your summer plans have changed.

Thank you for your children!
