Library March News

Greetings from the Learning Lab
To all the families that participated in the Spring Conference PTO Book Exchange, thank you. It was the most successful Exchange yet.  Hundreds of books were donated and adopted into new homes. Congratulations to our community of generous readers. You Rock!

Guess What? We want you back. Help us re-label our nonfiction library books. No prior experience or library knowledge is necessary for you to come and help.

Our Learning Lab has been converting from traditional library organization to a book store model for over 6 years.  We are close to completion.  There are 4,901 books that require re-labeling from the Dewey Decimal System to our more student friendly BCS (Buchter Classification System) model. There are a lot of books to manage in this process. We need you!

A typical shift will look like this:

  • Sign in at the front office.
  • You will come to the Learning Lab (also known as the Library).
  • There will be stacks of books on the back tables with stickers.  We will have an ever-changing “doing pile” and “done pile”.
  • You will apply 3 stickers to each book.
  • That’s it; you are only applying stickers.

Any half hour that you can spare is such a gift.  Our goal is to complete the re-labeling process by April 23rd, before the end of the year festivities take place.  The last day of school is May 24th so that gives us a month to finish any final details before summer building construction starts.
